There are no cheats as we understand this word. Developers didn’t include a console into the game so you cannot type some codes. But you can download a trainer and change stats or conditions with it. You also can rewrite game files to facilitate your gameplay. In addition, there are some legal cheats in the game. We mean special backer heroes and artifacts which you can add simply by taping their names.
Let’s discover how to use secrets and trainers.
Backer heroes
We have the «Backer Heroes» article where you can read about features and strengths of these characters. Here we will describe how to add them to the game. First of all, open the Stage Coach in the Hamlet. There you can see all available adventurers and there you also can hire them. But if you don’t like anyone of these folks there is an option to add predefined heroes. For that just tap the Enter key, insert a name of the hero and type the Enter key again. Voila!
Each backer hero has its unique name and features. There are about 300 characters created by backers from Kickstarter. But what if you don’t know all names? Keep calm, we have a solution. Open the game folder and proceed to the folder named «hero». There you will find a file with the title «Backer_Heroes.json». Open it with any text editor and search for names. You want to find parts like «hero_class» and «hero_name». Text before the «hero_name» fragment is exactly what you need to type in the game.

Backer trinkets
Backers created not only playable characters but also trinkets. You can add them similar as backer heroes. Open your inventory, tap the Enter key and input a name of the desired trinket. You can carry only one copy of each artifact. Don’t mind to sell them, because all backer trinkets cost only 1 gold when Crest of 1100 cannot be sold at all. These items suit every class and have their own color. Names of artifacts are not case sensitive but in that case punctuation matters. Pay attention when typing a name.

Game files
You can change parameters of the game directly in the folder. Just be sure to create a backup of all files to recover them in case of failure. For example, you can change an amount of gold provided after completing a quest. Follow these steps to increase your income:
- Open a file named «quest.json» in the «quest folder». You can use any text editor.
- Scroll down till you see lines like «type»: «gold», «id» and «amount».
- Replace the numbers after the «amount» line with any other up to 90000000.
- Save this file and open the game.
Now you will receive more gold for certain quests. Means you can change 3000 to 90000000 and you will get increased rewards for every quest with normal income of 3000 gold. In described file, you can change all amounts, but be careful. Billions of gold can cause a permanent crush with no option of recovering the game.
In that way, you can interact with all files. It’s possible to maximize SPD, DMG and other stats of every hero simply by changing lines in their files. Just work with folders wisely and always create backups.
Trainers
Trainers work similar to the previous method. These programs can change the game’s code and manipulate stats or resources. There are a lot of different trainers for the Darkest Dungeon. You can download them almost everywhere but remember about viruses. Check all downloaded files with your antivirus and all will be fine.
Trainers for the game allow you to change main stats and conditions. Names of programs always include a sign «+» and a number after it. For example, names can be like «DD trainer +4» or «DD trainer +11». These numbers reflect how much parameters you can change. It can be 4 or 11 different options, respectively.
Trainers with 4 or 5 paragraphs always include infinite health, infinite money, and option of an instant kill. The last point means your heroes will slay all enemies with only one hit. There also can be options like infinite armor or infinite torch, lack of fear or stress and the most powerful ability named God Mode.
Trainers with more options up to 11 also include listed above features. In addition, you can change the quantity of items in the shop or capacity of your inventory. It’s also possible to increase all game currencies, not only gold. Trainers with marks +10 or +11 usually suggest using buttons on the Numpad.
