Exploration and variety to the max

Euclid galaxy is the name of the area that No man’s sky takes place in. Your main goal is to reach the center of this galaxy to see a colossal and spectacular ending. Well reaching it in one sitting is nearly impossible and you also need a lot of supplies, so you’re going to have to stop at one (or many) planets in the game to stock up on supplies. How many planets are there in No man’s sky? 18 quintillion… Sounds enough? Well, to this day, only a portion of them have been discovered by millions of players so you have the freedom to find and claim your own planet!

Structure and layers

Each and every planet is unique. By name, at least. When you are approaching the planet in your spaceship, you get a panel and a HUD of information about it on the low-left corner of the screen. This info helps you orient better. There are ~1700 known types of planets, but the number might fool you, there are quite less unique planets and many of them just differ in color schemes or patterns, sentinel inhibition and with small quirks and features that you won’t notice. So out of the 18 quintillion, how many unique and real planets are there in No Man’s sky? Well, it depends on whether you’re looking for a number to aim for, or just an honest, disappointing answer… Anyway, it’s a rhetorical question that doesn’t need answering. So, the planets are divided in to four base layers:

  • Biome (a planet, a moon etc.)
  • Weather conditions – safe to be or not
  • Sentinel types (aggressive or friendly)
  • Number of plants (Flora)
  • Number of living creatures (Fauna)

By checking the lower left side and seeing the HUD you will know the info about the planet and can decide the setup before landing, set your gameface or don’t even land at all. It’s really up to you, but although not very extensive, this categorization of planets helps you out a lot.

What to do?

After landing, go and explore the planet. Collect materials, gather plants, repel enemies that might harass you and stay strong in the vast areas of the universe.
