Think of a star. Now think about many there are of them in the night sky. Let’s try to estimate a number? Millions? Good, but not great. To feel the scale and the magnitude, multiply that by thousands and thousands to achieve the right number. Kind of hard to understand, right? But it’s what a galaxy is, a collection of stars, cosmic elements and particles that occupy space. Just like real life, the same happens in No man’s sky. Simply marvelous.

Two hundred and fifty seven

Galaxies are the main component that forms the whole universe of No Man’s Sky. How big is the universe in No man’s sky or how many galaxies are there? The answer is 257, to this date. After reaching the end of a galaxy the player enters a cutscene and is prompted with a screen stating that he/she has entered a new galaxy. Every single time it’s the same composition – your ship crashed and you’re trying to work your way over again.

Galaxies in No man’s sky differ from one another in a few areas. One is visual differences. Some universes have a different color scheme, some are dominated by blue or purple tones and have some sense of unique-ness. The names differ, also. These are randomly generated names that aren’t real words and don’t resemble any of the ones that the human race has found in space. The classification of galaxies in No man’s sky should be narrowed down to this question: what kinds of galaxies are in No man’s sky? The answers are:

Types of galaxies

  • Ancestral – these types of galaxies have a lot more to offer than the others. They’re filled with exotic planets.
  • Imperfect - these are hard to explain, but it seems like they are the most basic and natural versions.
  • Raging – raging galaxies in No man’s sky are the most dangerous and harsh environments that the player can find him or herself in. Very few calm and lush planets.
  • Tranquil – just like the title suggests, tranquil galaxies possess large quantities of lush and vivid planets.

We hope that this article is going to help you better understand the concept and layout of the 250+ galaxies currently discovered in No man’s sky. Stick around for more information about the game.
