There are a lot of tough moments in Outlast with different bloody enemies and twisted ways. But the episode with a boss called Richard Trager is the worst in our opinion. Well, we hate it. The strange maniac who was a surgeon before the incident, Trager now is a collector of human bodies and parts of them. He manages a whole branch in the asylum with several patients. And you have to deal with him in his territory…
That’s possible. We want to help you with this guide. The most frustrating moment during the Trager’s quest is finding the elevator key. It’s hidden in a distant room which is accessible through a pair of ventilation. Don’t forget about evil Doctor looking for you and anxious patients in rooms and corridors. Remain calm to reach the elevator and find the key for it. And we will help.
Escape from Doctor and reach the elevator
At first, you should escape from the wheelchair. If you remember Richard Trager tortured you and cut your fingers off. It’s pretty unpleasant, but you want to live and have to run. Quickly shake your mouse to break free. Then follow Doctor through a single entry there.
Now you are in a large hall where trails of blood are. Remember it, but don’t proceed through the entry near trails yet. Get close to a patient that is directly rightwards to you. He will start to scream or talk – be sure to sneak below any bed as Doctor wants to calm this patient.
Watch for Doc as he deals with his target. Then he will notice your disappearance and becomes mad. Leave your hideout only when Doctor says something about figuring out and solving the problem. Proceed to trails of blood and hide below the bed right near the main entry. Trager will come back now and starts to check beds. You should quickly run when he is in another part of this hall. Move through the main entry and surely close it behind you.
You are safe now, proceed to the left corridor and turn right there.
Find the elevator key
Well, you have found the elevator, but it’s only the beginning. Now prepare yourself for challenge puzzle called «Find the elevator key». Ignore all objects here as you just cannot use them for now. Look for the 1st ventilation which is right above the bed.
Crawl through this system until you reach the new hall. Jump down and remove the metal locker from the way left to you. Be sure not to open it, just remember this way as it’s your last escape. It’s pretty important to prepare this door.
Turn back now and proceed through the leftmost entry. That’s a linear part, just move further till you see Doc. Sneak under the bed to find out his route: through this room and corridor, then back. Once Doctor reaches your familiar metal locker, run in the other part of the hallway, remove another locker there and go to the back part of this location. Exploit the bed there to reach the 2nd ventilation.
Go this way until you are able to jump down. Explore the restroom where a document and batteries are located. Leave this room and proceed to the large entry. The key for an elevator is near the window which is northeast to the entry. Congrats, you have made it!
Come back to the elevator
Now it’s time to return. Be careful as Doc will try to catch you once you have grabbed the key. Come back to the hall with a big door and go under any bed to deceive Doctor. Timings are important as you should leave the bed when your enemy is in the back part of this room. Go through the familiar window where the key was and go further. You should pass several doors; remember about Doctor so close them.
Once you have passes the 2nd door, turn left and go to the big entry. Yes, it’s the door which was blocked by the locker! But you have removed it so don’t worry. Now you can use the entry, but be sure to close it again and quickly reach the elevator. Enjoy cutscene!
