Overview

Sid Meier's Starships is a turn-based strategy game in the Civilization: Beyond Earth universe. Gameplay occurs on a strategic level galaxy map, with an array of independent systems producing resources and benefits for empire that they join. Combat takes place on a tactical hex-based map, in a turn-based fashion.

You control a single fleet of starships, performing missions as desired, trying to convince planets to join your Federation. You will move on the galaxy map, and engage in battle with your fleet on the tactical map. However, as you perform missions and engage in combat, your crew grows more and more tired. When tired, missions are riskier, and combat becomes more difficult. When you take "shore leave", your crew is refreshed, but while you are on leave, your opponents can take their turns.

Your ships can be customized for various missions, adjusting parameters that affect hull, shields, engines and weapons. Wonders and the technologies you research help in these areas.
