Total War: Shogun 2 is an unique strategy game in a way that it is a blend of a turn-based strategy and a real-time strategy. In the game player plays as both: clan leader and the general. The player has to be alternating between managing his armies and lands by turns and real time battles. There are nine different playable clans with different units and traits for players to choose from: the Chosokabe clan that generates more income from farming, the Date clan whose units gain bonus when charging, The Hojo clan that are good at building and siege, the Mori clan that have advantages at naval battles, the Oda clan whose commanders are efficient, the Shimazu clan who have generals with more loyalty, the Takeda clan who have superior cavalry, the Tokugava clan that have better diplomatic relation skills, and the Uesugi clan who generate more income from trading. The game is know for its large scale battles, which turns into real time battlefield once the armies meet. The game has amazing graphics for a RTS game that has large scale battles. Weather and climate as well as terrain have effects on the battles. It is especially interesting how weather effects battles as it is unique for RTS games. For example fog reduces visibility or heavy rain reduces the damage of missile troops. Shogun 2 is a real standout with lots of action and strategy involved that has to be adapted differently every time due to various circumstances.
