PGA Tour Golf was originally published in 1990 for PC DOS. In 1991 and 1992 it was released for the Genesis, Macintosh, SNES, and Commodore Amiga. In 1993 it was released for the Sega Master System and Game Gear.

The Tiger Woods PGA Tour series can be directly traced back to these early PGA Tour Golf titles. The series saw fairly regular releases up until 1998, at which time the Tiger Woods endorsement brought forth yearly editions of the game.
