The main part of this game is exploring dungeons as you can understand from its title. There are a lot of different corridors and rooms with treasures and monsters. You can crawl through 5 unique locations including one added in the DLC. You also will explore the final dungeon where the last boss hides. Enemies occupy almost every room and crossroad, but you can find some safe places. Secret rooms belong to them.

You may know about some easter eggs and mysterious places in other games. Forget about them now. Darkest Dungeon is all about gloom and horror so you will not find here cute pics or things which break the fourth wall. Even secret rooms here are just hidden parts of the dungeon where you can acquire useful loot and nothing more. It’s worth to find them, but don’t hope there will be overpowered swords and so on.

Well, let’s discover how to access these unusual places and what treasures await there.

How to find secret rooms?

You can find a secret room during medium and long expeditions. Short dungeons don’t contain hidden places. To enter such room you should scout it first. It’s the only way to reveal secret rooms in corridors of the certain dungeon. Note that you can find hidden objects even in passed halls as well as in unexplored parts of the dungeon.

You can scout an environment randomly while accessing a new room. With a high chance of scouting, this effect will be triggered at the start of a particular mission. The skill of scouting can be increased by the high level of light, camping abilities, quirks, and trinkets. There is a chance of critical scouting which reveals twice as more locations. Such effect occurs with a chance of 50% if your overall scouting is lower than 100%. In other cases, critical scouting occurs always.

Once you scouted a secret room it will appear as a golden star icon in the map. All secret rooms are located in corridors so you should search there. You just should move along that corridor where a secret room is located. Proceed to the desired location and stop your team. Now simply click on the background or tap W button/Up arrow to open a door.

After exploring of secret rooms you can leave them as regular. Simply click on a new target on the map and your party will move there.

What’s inside secret rooms?

There are no foes inside secret rooms so you can take a short rest there. All rooms of this type contain a unique curio named Ancient Artifact. It’s a treasure which you can unlock with or without cleansing.

If you simply unlock this chest you will receive 3 portions of gold or gems and that’s all. So we suggest unlocking this curio with cleansing means you should use Skeleton Key. In this case, you will be rewarded with one trinket similar to artifacts that drops from the Collector. It could be one of three heads which boost PROT, DMG and healing skills as well as inflict stress while being equipped. You also can receive 3 copies of Puzzling Trapezohedron which cost of 3500 gold per copy.

While in the Courtyard you can also reveal secret rooms. This location keeps more treasures and secrets. In hidden rooms here, you can find not only chests with cool loot but also prisoners. These adventurers are similar to your heroes and they can join your team. All prisoners are experienced combatants and they have upgraded equipment and abilities.

Don’t forget that secret rooms and curios there comply with regular rules. It means that you will find more loot while traveling with low light and even more loot at 0 level of light.

What else should you know about secret rooms?

  • You don’t need Skeleton Key to unlock secret rooms. You also don’t need it to interact with curio, but using this item will gain more valuable loot.
  • Secret rooms have 0% chance to appear during a short mission, 50% chance – during a medium mission and 100% chance during a long mission.
  • Secret rooms always appear during boss missions regardless of their length.
  • Scouting after activating a curio will not reveal secret rooms.

Good luck in finding secret rooms!
