UT 2004 has a lot of characters and describing them all would be very hard if not close to impossible, because there is just so many of them. In this article: Unreal Tournament 2004 characters, you’re going to find a list of in-game characters and a thorough description of the tribes/factions/groups that they belong to. Their traits, benefits, weaknesses (mostly benefits) and what makes them unique and different from one another. There are 10 classes/racies/species (call them however you want) in total:

Cybernetic

They aren’t very consistent to track because during the series they can be interpreted differently. But it mostly refers to humans with augmented parts, for example a robotic arm or as much as being replaced fully by a robotic body. It can also mean that they possess full AI. To sum it all up Cybernetic race are robots or half-robot human beings.

Egyptians/Anubans

In UT 2004 they’re simply known as Anubans. They look like Egypt inhabitants with their dress style, accessories and other features closely related with Ancient Egypt’s civilization. This civilization is closely tied with their earthly counterparts, but being part of aliens experiments they were transported to colonize a remote moon.

Hellions

In other words pirates, who stole “Nexus” prototypes. They’re represented by many strong and battle hardened space pirates in UT 2004. All of them are outlaws from the human race.

Gen Mo’Kai

Super fast. Humanoid like aliens that come from the jungle planet of Arborea with the thirst for vengeance. While not comparable with the likes of Juggernauts in terms of strength and sheer power, they compensate this with crazy fast speed and agility.

Juggernauts

Sort of like the steroid junkies of the Unreal Tournament universe. They repel bullets and practically are immune to damage. While not super quick they are colossally strong and enduring. A genetic alteration in their genes allowed Juggernauts to separate themselves from their human counterparts.

Mercenaries

Natural hunters built using gene engineering and created to locate, predate and kill. They are greedy and extremely powerful. Although being on average 6 feet tall, they weigh upwards of 250 lbs making them a force to be reckoned with.

Nightmare

A group of fabricated breeds of life forms, created with yet another instance of biological advancements they were created as biological weapons. Information from previous games insist that they come from a lava planet that some of the maps in the game are based on. While genetically mutated, they closely resemble humans with their physiques and thus make us think that they are far away relatives of the human race.

Robots

Closely tied with the cybernetic race these ‘Robots’ needs to be separated as mentioned earlier, they’re sometimes referred to as a different species. Where cybernetic can fall in between augmented humans and robots, this term defines only full robots without any human parts.

Skaarj

The most powerful reptiles in the universe. They are raised and have the intent to destroy and kill all other species and explain this by saying that they are the natural rulers and exceptionally more entitled to the gift of life and power than other races (sounds familiar, right?... Nacism).

Thunder Crash

A team of humans with military backgrounds. They boast green armor with some accents or logos. They are respected, known and feared throughout the universe because of their successes in the Grand Tournaments. Although an expensive team (referred to as “Thunder Cash” by other characters) they get the job done.

These are all of the factions that are known in the UT 2004 universe. Hope you enjoyed.
