Overview

Turnover is a top down, survival stealth game developed by Long Division LLC for release on Steam.

In the game, players take the role of an office worker named Clea who must escape a competing corporation's "hostile takeover" of her building.

Story

The game takes place in an alternate history United States in 2021. Corporate friendly legislation has given rise to economic monopolies. Constant war in the Middle East have brought forth the use of private military security firms as an unaccountable attack force. Recession has caused many cities to privatize their police services, heralding the "dawn of the security state".

Soon, corporations begin hiring private security firms to protect their assets, both abroad and on the homeland.

In the defense industry, Bartleby Automation enters into merger discussions with competing contractor Grand Robotics. The merger would make Grand Robotics the U.S. government's largest defense contractor.

Despite the talks breaking down, Grand Robotics is determined to create the defense monopoly they desire. They hire private security firm ZS Security to raid Bartleby's headquarters to violently influence a "hostile takeover".

In Turnover, players take the role of Clea Holden, an office worker who becomes stuck in the middle of the raid. Fearing for her life, she attempts to escape the building. Up against an army, her only defense is her wits and her determination to survive.

The raid itself becomes a notable event in American history. Over the course of the game, Clea recalls her experience during "The Raid on Bartleby Automation", through the use of cut scenes.

Gameplay

Turnover takes place in a Bartleby Automation's HQ building. The game begins on Clea's working floor and the objective is to find the exit of each floor while avoiding enemy detection.

Levels

Each floor is being patrolled by members of the private security firm and often present multiple challenges to be overcome. For example, one floor may be to simply make it to an elevator without getting caught. On the next floor, the exit may be guarded, so the player will need to find help in killing the guard so they can progress. Another floor may be locked down by turrets that need to be disabled, and so on.

In addition to the patrols, floors often have a number of obstacles to overcome, such as sweeping security cameras, turrets, floor debris, and fire.

Enemies

Clea encounters a variety of enemies throughout her escape, such as armed patrols, snipers, and attack dogs.

Enemies display vision cones to project their line of sight. They can also hear noise and investigate the source. When sneaking, the player often must keep noise to a minimum, by avoiding debris or even the foot noise of sprinting when necessary. On the flip side, noise can also be used by Clea to her advantage. This can best be accomplished by picking up and tossing objects to distract patrols.

If Clea is spotted, she will be attacked or hunted down if enemies lose sight of her. If she is caught by a Security Camera, it will alert a number of nearby patrols to her presence. The player must hide to avoid the search party, or engage them directly if armed.

Friendlies

During the course of her escape, Clea will run into two type of fellow co-workers: IT workers and Rent a Cops. Workers can be recruited to follow Clea and assist her in escaping. IT workers can be drafted to disable locked consoles, which in turn will disable cameras and turrets. Rent a Cops are armed with a pistol and can be recruited to engage enemies directly. They are ideal for setting up an ambush.
