Outlast have some hidden secrets and achievements like a lot of other games. Some of them are pretty obvious while others can even be not noticed. We offer a complete guide to Easter eggs and secret achievements of Outlast. Normally, they are jokes or references which can break the fourth wall easily. In-game secrets about the universe of Outlast can be revealed via notes, documents and video records.

If you want to reveal mysteries of Outlast read our article that explains the entire story. And here we want to focus on references as well as on trophies.

Easter eggs

We have noticed not so many valuable secrets, but here they are:

  • Names of developers.

Is there anybody who never dreams about putting their name as a secret? Developers of Outcast decided to add such Easter egg several times. You can find the name Morin on pens, bottles, TVs, and fridges. It’s a reference to Philippe Morin, one of the founders of Red Barrels. You also can find the name Helman on screens which is a reference to animator Jamie Helman.

  • References to Red Barrels.

Folks from this studio went further and added both the name and the logo as Easter eggs. Red Barrels title can be found in underground labs under the emergency lights. There are also several blue barrels of stickers mention «This is not a red barrel». The thing is that Red Barrels promised never put regular red barrels in their game. Seems legit!

  • Trailer Easter egg.

There were several trailers before the game’s release. In one of them, Miles Upshur runs away from Chris Walker, that big guy. In the game when you are in the asylum wait until lights are off and turn on the night vision. Look leftwards with your camera and zoom into pictures on the wall. There will be an image of the asylum from the trailer!

  • Film scenes.

We have noticed only two references. The first one features I Am Legend film of 2007. While you are in Prison Block during 2nd mission Chris Walker will crush airlocks to reach you. There is a similar final scene in the film when a zombie tries to reach heroes through a glass door.

The second reference features Evil Dead 2 film. When you are in the Courtyard during 5th mission, find the shack there. It is located near the start point. Once you are inside turn on the night vision and look above a key. There will be an outline of chainsaw almost like in the film.

Secret achievements

Well, these trophies are not so secret, because you can achieve them simply following the story. But developers marked them as hidden so far as you cannot read descriptions until you reach certain episode. Anyway, there is a single secret achievement which requires from you specific actions aside from the main story. Let’s reveal:

  • Elevator Operator.

Here we have the very same secret trophy. During the 1st mission, you can find the elevator in the middle of corridor related to the atrium. Walk there and press any button. In the result, a Murkoff worker will fall down in the shaft screaming loudly. Yes, he will die. Note that you can achieve this only with Xbox One copy of the game.

  • Illuminated.

This and all below listed achievements are story-related means you will surely get them simply playing the game. Here you have to turn on generators to restore power supply.

  • Flushed.

Here is another story trophy. Your task is to exploit valves and drain the Sewers. It’s not even necessary to enter a new location to achieve the Flushed trophy.

  • Soaked.

During the 4th mission, you will encounter Pyromaniac which wants to burn entire asylum. To get this achievement simply activate sprinklers in this location.

  • Emancipated.

In the Female Ward which is the main location for the 6th mission, you should find a key to return to upper levels. Grab this item and you will get the trophy.

That’s all remarkable secrets from Outlast. Try to find each Easter egg!
