Development

Shadow of the Eternals was announced via IGN.com on May 3rd, 2013 as a crowd-funded game for the and , with the goal of reaching 1.5 million USD to fund its first episode. Its own crowd-funding site then went live three days later on May 6th detailing the process with a number of tiered reward setups for any would-be backers. On May 13th, Precursor Games then set up an additional venue for supporting the game via Kickstarter. The campaign quickly received criticism due to language on Precursor's own funding site suggesting that they were under no obligation to return pledged funds in the even that the campaign was unsuccessful, though this wording was quickly removed from the website.

After pulling the campaign from both sites, Precursor reorganized and relaunched the campaign in July 25, 2013 through Kickstarter alone with a lowered funding goal of $750,000. Despite efforts to reorganize the crowdfunding project and adjust goals for the game's development, the campaign ended unsuccessfully on August 23, 2013. It had only managed to garner $323,950 in pledges.

On September 29, 2013, it was announced that work on Shadow of the Eternals had ceased and that the members of Precursor Games were taking a break. It is not known when or if the team will reorganize to continue development of the title.

On October 31st, 2014, the game then went back into development once more, only it is now being developed by yet another newly created studio involving Dyack called Quantum Entanglement Entertainment.

The game's demo was developed using the engine.
