The game features two playable factions, dwarves and humans, as well as a number of NPC factions the player will encounter over the campaigns. Unlike many earlier RTS games where the tech trees were expanded on linearly throughout the campaign, the player earns technology points for every mission which can be spent to unlock new buildings and units for the next mission at will.
