Overview

Final Flames: Dark Rage is a game that mimics the style of retro arcade-style beat 'em up games. The game is created by and is released in March 29, 2011. There are four playable characters, with each having their own endings. This game allows up to two players to team up and fight enemies. A is released six years later, with the game's setting taking place six years later as well.

Gameplay

With every standard beat 'em up game, the player must defeat enemies in order to progress to further sections of the stages. The game functions through two buttons, which can be utilized with either a keyboard or a direct input gamepad. Pressing Z (or 1 for gamepad) allows the player to perform a basic combo. This can be cancelled with the other button, which makes the character perform a skill attack. Skill attacks are usually intended to provide a different utility, such as stunning opponents or hitting enemies from afar. Performing a skill attack consumes a small portion of the player's Mernergy Points. The game spans for six stages, with each having its own boss and recruitable CPU controlled character. If the player loses all of their lives and chooses to continue, they will lose access to the true ending of their selected character. This results in a generic bad ending.

Story

The year is 20XX. A school teacher was reported to be injured by the faculty. Hours later, the city was being ravaged by an endless horde of shadow figures. Four students of the school warped to their secret base, gathered their weapons, and prepared for battle. According to the school faculty, there is a portal located at the north campus, which is located miles away. After clearing all of the shadow figures in their own campus and defending all of the helpless students, the four travel on foot to the source of the incident.

Characters

Final Flames has a cast of four playable characters, six bosses, and six recruitable allies.

Playable Characters

King

A young boy with a short sword he found in an abandoned military base. He can perform a 2-hit combo with his sword. By being equipped with the Fire Jacket, he can create a fire ball out of thin air. He is also the only character in the game that can perform a critical hit by chance, which doubles the damage output of his attacks. His stats are the most balanced out of everyone.

Joriel

An overconfident, yet cowardly young boy. Later named Jonnel in the series, this game is what begun the pattern of making him the weakest playable character. He is equipped with a short bow, allowing him to attack with arrows slowly from a range. Joriel suffers from low damage output, low speed, and low defense. In addition to this, each arrow costs one Menergy Point. Fortunately, Joriel is also the only character that can restore Menergy Points once he is out. Joriel's skill attack consists of him stunning all opponents on the screen by using a camera flash. Joriel also has the ability to push enemies that are too close to him.

Faliyos

Faliyos is a handicap, preventing him to use his right arm. Faliyos, however, is able to live with this and puts all of his power into his left arm. Faliyos sacrifices speed for power, allowing him to instantly defeat many common enemies with one punch. The only drawback for this is that he needs to recharge his arm before he can punch again. Faliyos's skill attack allows him to summon an ice wave in front of him. This can only be performed if he is attacked, as this is a counter move.

Alen

Alen is the youngest of the crew. Although he is only in elementary, he proves his skills by being a blue belt in Taekwondo. Alen is the fastest character in the game, which allows him to throw a five hit combo with ease. Alen can also perform a flying kick as his skill attack, allowing him to charge in quickly. Unfortunately, he suffers from having low damage output.

Bosses

DA

DA (real name: Damian) is the first boss. He is a confident individual who benefits from his quick movement. Unfortunately, he can only perform a one hit combo.

Dr. DR

DR is the second boss. He has two forms. The first form consists of him driving his ice cream truck. In this truck, he can throw poisonous ice creams at the player and ram the players with the truck. In his second form, he fights the players himself, as his truck was destroyed. In this form, he flies across the screen, impaling the player with his claws. He can be defeated by attacking after he taunts.

Jesson

Jesson is the third boss. He is a strange man who disturbs the main cast with his perverted thoughts. Jesson highly depends on his trash bag; throwing the garbage he finds in the air to cause damage. He can slap the player with a dirty old shoe. He can also throw banana peels to make the players slip.

Jones

Jones is the fourth boss. Jones is a man with a military getup. He depends strongly on his machine gun. Players must take advantage of the barrels to hide from his bullets. Jones is vulnerable while reloading, and is invincible while he has bullets. Jones is also capable of healing his health when his health is low.

Frenzy

Frenzy is the fifth boss. He is a skilled swordsman in the dark realm and is one of the most trusted fighters of Chaos. He is able to move swiftly and deliver combos of sword slashes. He can also charge his sword to deliver a powerful slash. He can also form crescent projectiles to attack players from a distance.

Chaos

Chaos is the final boss. He has two forms. In his first form, Chaos can teleport and attack the player with kicks and punches. He is invincible while he performs his melee attacks. When he goes into his next form, he gains a few new abilities. He is able to throw energy balls into the air that falls down. He also can throw out a long laser. Chaos also can fly into the air and crash towards the player, delivering a powerful explosion. At low health, Chaos can fly higher into the air to make a road roller crash down at the player, delivering an instant KO if successful.

Recruitable Allies

Dennis

Dennis can be found on stage 1. He is a tennis player, meaning that he depends on his tennis racquet to attack enemies and uses tennis balls as his projectile. His moves are loosely based off King.

Melody

Melody can be found on stage 2. She is a guitarist and uses her guitar as a melee weapon. She can summon speakers to use musical notes as projectiles. She also has the ability to play a note that stuns opponents. Her moves are loosely based of Joriel.

Striker

Striker can be found on stage 3. He is a baseball player, utilizing his baseball bat to deliver instant KOs for homeruns. Unfortunately, he needs to charge his attack slightly before attacking. He also has a counter where he tackles the enemy if they attack. His moves are loosely based off Faliyos.

Lace

Lace can be found on stage 4. She is skilled with her knives, allowing her to deliver slices quickly. She can also dash into opponents to have a quick approach for her offense. She is loosely based off Alen.

Robin

Robin can be found on stage 5. He is a strange student with an addiction to rocks. His only attack consists of him throwing rocks in the air so that they can fall to enemies. Robin's rocks have the ability to break through any invincibility.

Hayden

Hayden can be found on stage 6. He is a powerful boy who utilizes a small axe. Though he can instantly destroy anyone in one swing, he must charge his attack for a long time. After charging, he sprints while slicing anyone in his way.
